Throughout the world, there are countless underserved communities that suffer from debilitating poverty without an improving future in sight.  Inherently, people are born into this kind of world with an enormous magnitude of problems including the lack of basic resources and public services - such as clean water, food, health care, and education.  In these communities, animals play a major role in public health, as they are known to be reservoirs of many diseases that jump to humans.  Just like people, animals are born into this kind of world without choice, yet unlike people, they lack the ability to advocate for their basic needs.  It's in these communities that there is an outstanding need for basic veterinary care of animals, and when provided correctly and sustainably, can have a major positive impact on public health.
